Contest: Query Critique

As promised, thanks to our new followers, we're giving away TWO query critiques! Here's how to win them:

1. Paste ONLY the first line of your query in the comments below (if it's the genre/word count skip to the next line).
2. Tell us your name and email address so we can contact you if you win.

And that's it! If you're not a follower of YA Stands that's okay, but you really should be because we'll be doing a lot more giveaways.

Two members of YA Stands will each be choosing their favorite first line and providing a breakdown of the query on the blog (so you have to be willing to share it publicly).

Winners will be chosen Monday, July 25th.

Good luck!

  1. Nice of you to offer your time, ladies. Here's the first line of my query (actually the second. I'm one of those who puts the basic info first):

Sixteen year old Fern Niles died yesterday.

  2. Oh, YAY! I can always use more eyes to help me with this dreaded query! This is my first line:

Seventeen year old Mitchell Carter can't get enough of his sister.

(LOL, with just the first line it sounds a little incest-ish. I promise it's not)

    Thanks for this opportunity!

  3. Ooh, this looks like fun. I can sure use some query help. :D Here's my first line:

Seventeen-year-old Jazzlyn is not afraid of the dark.

    Thanks for hosting this!

  4. Whoops. Forgot to give you my contact info.

  5. Seems like fun. I'll look forward to swinging back around tonight and reading everybody else's first lines. ^_^ This is mine:

"In 1945, World War II ended with the rise of an undead horde."

  6. Cool query contest. I like the 1st line idea. Here's mine:

For fifteen year old Simon Winchester, the bench was supposed to be a good place to sleep.
