Thank you to those who commented on my last post and as I said I would announce the winner of a copy of A BEAUTIFUL DARK by Jocelyn Davies here in this post.  So without further delay, the winner is Ms. Snip!  You can email me here with your contact info and thanks again for commenting.

Now onto this week’s debut novel: EVERNEATH by Brodi Ashton.

My local bookstore, Blue Phoenix Books, recently started a young adult book club.  Our first group meeting was to discuss EVERNEATH, a retelling of the myth of Persephone, the goddess Hades abducted for his wife.  Admittedly this isn’t a story I would have picked up on my own, but I’m so glad I read it, there were so many great things about this story.  I loved the way Ms. Ashton developed the main character, Nikki, and how she handled Nikki’s relationships with the people she loves.  The other thing I liked was the way Ms. Ashton worked in flashbacks; it was different yet really added to the writing and the story.

Below is the blurb from Goodreads and I highly suggest picking this one up before the next book in the trilogy, EVERBOUND, comes out in January 2013.  Under the blurb you’ll find the book trailer.
Happy Reading!

Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she’s returned—to her old life, her family, her friends—before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever.

She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can’t find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there’s a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he’ll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.

As Nikki’s time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she’s forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole’s…

By the way, I'm playing catch-up on my reading following my knee surgery a few weeks ago (anesthetic and reading are not a good mix), so my next post will be a little different, but then I'll return with another debut author after that.
