Character Sighting

This is a short post because I’m just getting back from vacation and haven’t had much time for reading or writing lately, but I wanted to share one of my vacation experiences with all of you.

Here it is…

Picture it, you’re walking down the sidewalk along a beach with your entire family (husband, kid, mom, brother & his family) and all of a sudden you see one of your characters in the flesh.  Not just any character mind you, the hot main love interest.  Living, breathing and being photographed for Nordstrom’s advertising.  He’s the spitting image of what you hold in your head, right down to the tussled brown hair, and t-shirt that’s tight in all the right places.

So what do you do?

Do you just casually glance and keep on walking?  Do you stand and gawk and try not to drool?  Do you tell your whole family to wait for you while you stand and gawk, or do you let them go ahead of you and hope you can find them later?  Do you take some pictures, hoping the security guys won’t notice?  Or do you say ‘screw the security guys’ and run up to hug the model and tell him he’s exactly who you’ve been writing about?

Ok, I did not run up and hug the guy, but it was tempting, very tempting.  I did, however, take a few discreet pictures from behind the window of a nearby building while the rest of my family ate ice cream.  I also signed up for email alerts from Nordstrom’s and put their website on my favorites list so that I can make sure not to miss his adds when they come out, probably next spring since they were swimsuit adds.  And yes, I did get to see him with his shirt off, but was not able to get a picture of that, bummer, I know.

The rest of my vacation is pretty much a blur.  I’m sure I’ll remember more of it later, but for now, all I can think about is him.

(P.S. I know some of my beta readers read this blog, so for those of you who have read Captive Art, yes, Dean was in Santa Monica this weekend and it was worth the two hour drive from our hotel in southern California traffic to see him.)

  1. Love this post! Little does this poor guy know he has a stalker. :) This has never happened to me, but I always keep my eye out. I think I'd probably faint if it ever happened.

    1. Aaww! Thank you :) I did have to stop and take a few deep breaths to keep from fainting.

  2. That has never happened to me. If it did, I'd probably stop and stare, or grab whoever is walking with me and squeal like a fan girl. There might be some fainting involved, Jeannette... :o) I adore this post, thanks for making me shmile!!

    1. You're so sweet! I had to keep my 'fan girl' squealing in check because I didn’t want my family (or the hundred or so other people on the pier) to think I was crazy.
