I reached my 1-year blogging anniversary this past week and looking back I am surprised how much my reading taste have changed in the past year. Before, I was only into the books by big publishers like Harper, Penguin, Random House, Simon & Schuster. I didn’t even know what and Indie or self-published book was. A couple of months after I started my blog, I started browsing Goodreads more often and I kept hearing everyone rave about the book: What a Boy Wants by Nyrae Dawn. I had never heard of this book but I loved the synopsis and I especially the fact that it was from a male POV. Since it was only $.99 I decided to buy it and I really, really LOVED it! After that, I was constantly searching for and buying so many Indie books. What can I say, I was (and am) hooked on them. The rest is history.
I think what I love the most about Indie books is that I know that the authors aren’t persuaded to changed, add or remove anything to make it more marketable. Which means that what I am getting, content and book cover, is exactly what the author wanted me to read. This also means that the authors can usually tackle more mature subjects, which make the books so much more realistic and easier to relate to. While I am happy that some of these Indie books are being picked up by big publishers because they totally deserve it, I am also a little nervous that the books will change.
Here is a list of my top 10 Indie books that I have read so far this year. Some of these are not technically Indies anymore, but they were at the time I read them.
(In no particular order, trust me, they are all equally amazing!)
Easy by Tammara Webber
Beautiful Disaster by Jaime McGuire
Lengths by Stephanie Campbell and Liz Reinhardt
Slammed by Colleen Hoover
Point of Retreat (Slammed #2) by Colleen Hoover
Avoiding Commitment by K.A. Linde
Crash by Nicole Williams
Clash (Crash #2) by Nicole Williams
Captive In the Dark by CJ Roberts
Falling by Jolene Perry
What a Boy Wants by Nyrae Dawn
The Secret of Ella & Micha by Jessica Sorensen
So I know that’s technically 12 books but its was so hard to narrow it down even to 12.
Have you read any of these awesome books? Any other Indies I’m missing out on?
