SP Library: Because The Night by Kristen Strassel + An Interview with a Vampire Rockstar

I was super curious about this book because it comes from a small press run by literary agents.

And then the plot got me. I read this book in an emotional frenzy, over-relating to characters, swooning over the men, and feeling the need to go back to Vegas. One of the things I loved about this book is the way it would appeal to YA readers, despite being NA. This is NA for lovers of YA, not for lovers of erotica. The next thing I loved - rockstar vampires.

You all know how I feel about vampires, right?

Cannot resist them.

Unless they sparkle. (Sorry Edward, you just didn't make me swoon. It's not you, it's me.)

So, an opportunity to interview Tristan - the latest vampire who swept me off my feet - was something I just couldn't pass by. Here's what you need to know about Tristan: rockstar vampire. As if I need to say more.

And if you did want more, here's what Callie had to say about him:

Interviewing Tristan - The Undead Rockstar of Immortal Dilemma

Hello, Tristan. I can call you Tristan, right? Let's talk books. What book is on your nightstand right now? Have you read anything recently?
There are better things to do in bed than read.  Last book I read...probably Catcher in the Rye. At least that was the only one I didn't get the cliff notes for in High School.

High school was a long time ago - you've moved to the big city now. What makes Vegas perfect for your lifestyle?
It's Sin City. Anything goes around here, and people are willing to buy into and try things that they would never do in the comfort of their own home. It's also a 24 hour city, so we aren't restricted by time like we would be in other cities.

That sounds like the perfect place for a night roamer. How has your personality changed since becoming a vampire?
I don't think it's changed at all. But if you talk to my family and my friends, they say it's made me more unpredictable. So take my word for it our theirs.

How do you think Callie would describe you in three words?
Three words we can repeat in public, you mean?  Impossible, challenging, irresistible. At least I hope on the last one.

I certainly wouldn't disagree with the last one. How would you describe yourself in three words?
Fun, fearless, spontaneous.

Nosy question: do you prefer a particular blood type?
Good question. The more attracted I am to someone, the sweeter they taste. I don't know if that has to do with a particular blood type. As I'm sure Callie has told you, I don't really pay much attention to the vampire rules and regulations.

Since you're letting me be nosy, I'll assume you'll allow me to be nosier. Because a girl needs to dream, what do you like in a woman?
I like a girl who isn't afraid to be herself. I like someone who is self sufficient and isn't waiting for her knight in shining armor to save her. I'm sick of getting used for money or fame.  If you look killer in a short skirt, that doesn't hurt, either.

What are you most proud of in your life?
I'm proud of the success that Immortal Dilemma has become. Sure, we're a manufactured band, we don't write our own songs and we do what the producers tell us, but if people didn't like us, it just wouldn't work.

What's something no one knows about you?
I do write my own songs, and they're nothing like what Immortal Dilemma plays. Maybe some day you'll get to hear them. And as much I give Callie a hard time, I love having her back in my life.

What deceased musician would you most want to have met?
Jimi Hendrix. He is the god of electric guitar playing.

Lace or leather?
Leather on me. Lace on you.

*coughs* Well. Um. Okay. Beatles or the Stones?
The Stones. Bluesy and gritty. I've heard rumors that Keith Richards might be one of us, but you didn't hear that from me.

Well...there you have it. From the lips of the undead himself. Want to know more about this hunk? Peek at his story below.

Because The Night
By Kristen Strassel

Sex, Blood, and Rock n' Roll.

Immortal Dilemma is the hottest band in the Las Vegas vampire rock scene. They draw insatiable fans from around the globe, thanks to a supernatural attraction called Bloodlust. Tristan craved such an opportunity to fill his empty mortal life, and now he has eternity to earn his place along the legends of rock n roll debauchery.

Callie always feared that Tristan’s excesses would get him into trouble, but she never thought they’d lead him to immortality. To reconnect with him, she must weave her way through a world not only she had no idea existed, but does not welcome her.

Blade turned down a spot in Immortal Dilemma after learning what he must sacrifice for that lifestyle. He finds Callie a refreshing change from the girls in the vampire rock scene. When Callie drags Blade back into the world of Immortal Dilemma, his resistance drives her into the waiting arms of Tristan, who shows her the true meaning of Bloodlust.

But the very things that Callie fights so hard to save are the very things that fight to destroy her.

Kristen shares a birthday with Steven Tyler and Diana Ross.  She spends each day striving to be half as fabulous as they are.  She’s worn many hats, none as flattering as her cowboy hat: banker, retail manager, fledgling web designer, world’s worst cocktail waitress, panty slinger, now makeup artist and author.  She loves sunshine, live music, the middle of nowhere, and finding new things to put in her house.  Because The Night is the first book from The Night Songs Collection.
Kristen is represented by Pam van Hylckama Vlieg of Foreword Literary.
